My beautiful friend Catherine is getting married today in Cape Cod and I’m thrilled to be here to share this day with her and some of my closest friends. She and her fiancĂ© were having trouble agreeing on a song for their first dance and when we had dinner together last month, I suggested dipping into the standards. Frustrated, she said they’d gone through a few of them, but Keith didn’t like any of the ones he’d heard.
“That’s because he hasn’t heard the right ones,” I insisted. “Let me play you a few of my favourites.”
So I loaded up some tracks, turned up the volume on my speakers and Cat listened. Slowly, a smile spread across her face when she heard a song that literally struck a chord with her.
Less than a week later, she sent an e-mail with the subject title “we got a song!” and the message: “thanks a whole bunch for playing those songs for me last weekend - keith and i finally picked “That’s all” by michael buble, thanks to you.”
I’ve always loved this song and was pleasantly surprised when I first heard the lovely arrangement for the Michael Buble version. Clearly it’s made an impression on the bride and groom too—they’ll be dancing to this song tonight and I’m so touched to have been a part of the process.
Congrats, Cat and Keith. These tears of joy are for you.
